More Consistent

Unified the digital brand experience across previously siloed divisions.

Project overview.

I inherited a digital marketing landscape suffering from inconsistency and inefficiency. Each acquisition and division at Trimble had developed its own design rules, creating a fragmented user experience that confused customers and exhausted our creators. Teams constantly reinvented components, leading to wasted effort, brand inconsistency, and painfully slow production timelines.

Project execution.

I led an internal team to spearheaded the development of Terra, a comprehensive design system to unify our digital experiences: - Collaborated with Brad Frost (the creator of Atomic Design) to build a system that actually worked at enterprise scale - Led a lean, specialized team to create a unified library of components, patterns, and icons - Developed a modular architecture that balanced consistency with flexibility - Created governance processes to ensure adoption across divisions - Built documentation and training materials to support implementation

Project results.

Terra became the backbone of Trimble's digital marketing ecosystem with impressive results:

- 65% acceleration in website production as teams stopped reinventing the wheel

- 90% improvement in brand consistency across digital properties

- 40% reduction in design QA issues through standardized components

- Significant cost savings by eliminating redundant design and development

We transformed digital marketing from fragmented chaos to consistent harmony. Designers finally stopped reinventing buttons, developers stopped cursing inconsistent code, and users began recognizing they were on Trimble properties regardless of division.
